HTHA Assessment on Three Texas Towers

During Oct 2020, Sonomatic field services in combination with RAIS support were asked to conduct an HTHA assessment on three Texas Towers on behalf of a client. The scope of work included weldment and base material coverage along circumferential, longitudinal, and nozzle weld.

Process

The inspection time was reduced to less than a 36-hour window (3 shifts), therefore required higher than normal manning levels during the COVID pandemic which provided its own unique restrictions. High levels of preparation both internally and with the client were required to ensure key target dates were met to make sure the high level of inspection activities would continue without incident.

Outcome

The site inspection team consisted of 26 specifically trained lead and assisting technicians. The field team were assisted by an eight-man support team including 4 analysts based both in the UK and around the world, working on-line through IT link-ups with real-timeĀ  discussions and comparative reviews. The team included five externally trained and certified HTHA specialists.

After experiencing initial delays due to surface prep, the inspection work was completed within the allocated time and Sonomatic was able to hand the assets back to the client to keep within the short outage objectives.
