Risers, Caissons & Structures

Sonomatic specialises in providing comprehensive inspection and integrity services for the internal and external offshore inspection of risers, flexible risers, caissons, conductors, and structures.  These critical tubular structural and pressure elements are essential for the effective operation of offshore assets.

We have developed internal and external inspection tools over the years, using industry-leading ultrasonic inspection techniques that allow for effective deployment and data capture. We are experts in providing multiple solutions, externally, and internally as well as customisation to suit the client’s needs.

Internal Inspection Tool

One of the challenges in conducting ultrasonic inspections is inspecting corroded surfaces. Sonomatic has developed the Internal Inspection Tool to address this challenge. This technology provides a tailored inspection survey based on the client’s integrity requirements and available budget.

Using advanced ultrasonic data analysis, Sonomatic can interrogate signals as if from a non-corroded surface, ensuring reliable measurements and supporting integrity management decisions.

KEY FEATURES
  • Inspection Technique: Water gap corrosion mapping. Water column technique used for inspection of dry section.
  • Diameter Range: 16” - 44” with potential for 48" where required
  • Wall Thickness Measurement: 12.5mm to 30mm
  • Scan Length: 600mm (including+/- 50mm overlap)
  • Scan Speed: 10 mins per 600mm length
  • Working Environment: Air and water (100m max depth)
  • Scan Technique: Continuous rotation spiral
  • Weight: 55kg in air, 35kg in water
  • Body Dimensions: 1950mm length, 260mm diameter

Internal Cleaning Tool

Going hand-in-hand with the Internal Inspection Tool, the Internal Cleaning Tool is an environmentally safe cleaning system that provides the most effective caisson cleaning prior to the inspection. The ICT is capable of operating below sea level to remove all scale and marine growth from the caisson interior back to deck level for disposal.

This prevents debris from dropping to the seabed or being sucked into the lift pumps on adjacent caissons.

Combined we can conduct HP water jet cleaning, digital image surveying and NDT inspection from a single mobilisation.

KEY FEATURES
  • 360° internal cleaning
  • Variable operating pressure
  • Dependable industry standard water jetting components used throughout
  • Configurable size range extending from 408mm – 1170mm caisson ID
  • Rugged design suitable for site conditions
  • Winch deployed
  • Failsafe arm mechanism retraction
  • Camera monitoring system

External Inspection

The marinised MEC™-MPS200+ Scanner enables the detection of internal and external corrosion and defects in risers, flexible risers, caissons, conductors, and structures while scanning externally. A changeout of the curvature adaptation enables the MEC™-MPS200+ Scanner to be used for internal inspection.

It is based on the next-generation MEC™ (Magnetic Eddy Current) technique cultivated by Innospection, now a division of Sonomatic. By operating on high frequency magnetic field controlled Eddy Current with specially developed Eddy Current sensors, the MEC™

technique offers enhanced inspection capabilities including the detection and sizing of internal and external defects at higher wall thickness and coating range.

The MEC™-MPS200+ Scanner enables the integration of an Ultrasonic sensor array working in parallel to the Eddy Current sensors to provide additional information relevant to the asset integrity. It also allows the integration of an advanced cleaning system for the simultaneous removal of marine growth during the inspection operation.

The capabilities of MEC™-MPS200+ with integrated Ultrasonic and advanced cleaning system include:
  • High sensitivity in the detection of internal and external corrosion and defects through higher wall thickness with the integrated UT sensor array.
  • Smooth transition into the splash zone without a break in the continuity of remote controlled inspection.
  • Ability to work at various subsea depths.

Asset Deployed Inspection

Traditional subsea inspection campaigns have required divers or work class ROVs deployed from a dedicated Inspection repair maintenance vessel. In a bid to support further reduced costs, Sonomatic has pioneered innovative, lightweight asset deployed advanced NDT solutions.

These tools can be deployed directly from the facility, supporting cost reductions associated with the inspection. Tooling is available to deploy a wide variety of inspection techniques and capable of performing cleaning for a range of inspection techniques. Tools are integrable with any ROVs that can be designed for asset management and deployment.

Remote Digital Visual Inspection

Remote Digital Visual Inspection (RDVI) is the use and application of digital inspection systems to internally inspect equipment without the need for Confined Space Entry (CSE). Through our sister company Vertech, their RDVI Division is the amalgamation of cutting-edge technology, multi-skilled site based crews, and a technically experienced management team. This strong foundation has allowed us to become the pathfinders of this emerging industry, setting the standard for others who follow.

Our staff accept nothing but excellence from themselves and each other, which has led to the RDVI team being known throughout the industry as the service provider of choice. Across the whole of CWL Group, we pride ourselves on executing and delivering high-profile, technically challenging scopes due to our commitment to innovation, the best people, and our absolute client focus.

Long Range Ultasonic Testing (LRUT)

Long Range Ultrasonic Technology (LRUT) is widely used for screening industrial pipelines and detecting potential integrity issues, however, a trend towards its commoditisation raises concerns about inappropriate applications. Sonomatic stands out in providing LRUT

inspection services by maintaining a deep understanding of technology and integrity requirements, offering a unique LRUT inspection service within a comprehensive integrity package.

Features & Benefits:
  • LRUT is a cost-effective screening tool, preventing extensive scaffolding and frequent pipeline replacements.
  • Sonomatic's process involves a comprehensive LRUT 'shot' followed by a follow-up team with complementary techniques.
  • Additional inspection methods include TOFD screening, CHIME® for semi-quantitative analysis, Multiskip Pulse Echo for improved sizing, and corrosion mapping using advanced systems.
  • Sonomatic ensures clear feedback to the client's integrity team, distinguishing between degradation-free areas and those requiring specific actions.
  • Sonomatic deliver meaningful and quickly interpretable data for effective risk management.
